COVID-19, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Virus.

I bought theworldisgettingdumber.com before the COVID-19 pandemic began, and boy do I seem prescient. Here we are in 2023, having completely failed to contain this MFer, masks are nowhere to be seen, and now test makers are going f’in bankrupt.

Make no mistake: this virus is destroying us. While vaccines have tamped down on deaths and hospitalizations, they seem to have less impact on Long COVID. Many people much smarter than me are screaming at the top of their lungs about the wide range of effects Long COVID is having on us, ranging from brain fog, long-term disabilities, exponentially increased risk of heart disease, immune suppression (gee, why is everyone getting sick more often now?), etc. etc.

As each day passes and more people begin to get their second, third, fourth COVID-19 infections, the virus destroys us a little bit more. Yet we celebrate our freedom to go out and infect ourselves more. We accept the inevitability of catching COVID-19 when we go to conferences, to Disney, to the packed gathering in the under-ventilated meeting space.

I said above that the virus is destroying us, but we’re welcoming the destruction with open arms, one indoor birthday party at a time.
